Hawai‘i Handweavers’ HuiPresents: Sakiori with Beth Ross Johnson (Hawai‘i Island)
Sakiori is the Japanese rag-weaving tradition (“saki” = to rip, “ori” = to weave) that transforms fabric strips into lightweight cloth. In this workshop, you’ll work with silk rags to explore color, pattern, and weave structure—learning to handle long strips, enhance stripe and print effects, and treat rags like ikat threads for rich design opportunities.
