Temari Hawaii is woven by community and threaded with culture.

Founded nearly 43 years ago, our mission is to continue sharing ideas, traditional approaches and new transformations of Asian and Pacific art forms—serving as a bridge across these rich, diverse cultures and generations past and future.

Through our workshops, festivals, and events, we support and inspire artists, teach traditional and contemporary techniques, and create a community of cultural connections.

Talk Story with Kuro’s Workshop

Mōʻiliʻili Community Center

July 6, 2025

In this introductory talk, we’ll explore how books have served as vessels of knowledge, memory, and beauty throughout history.

We will also share some of the curious reactions we’ve received when we tell people we are bookbinders—yes, people still bind books by hand in the 21st century!

We’ll also offer a peek into the world of hand-bookbinding, its rich past, and why keeping this craft alive still matters today.

This is a light, welcoming talk for anyone curious about the magic of books!

Free admission! Registration is required.
